The short game has always been considered a big key to lowering your handicap. If you can putt well then this can really improve your game and lower your scores. If you saved one putt on every 3 holes then you would lower your score by 6 shots – imagine your score after that.

One key to putting is to be in total control of the shot. It is essential to keep your body really still whilst taking the shot. So, once you have assessed the lie and the speed of the green and you are ready to take your shot, think of a few key points to keep yourself in control of the putt:

Smoothness: make sure you hit the ball smoothly, don’t jerk the shot and make sure you follow through on the ball, don’t snap or tap at it.
Pendulum Effect: Think of your arms as pendulums on a clock in the way that they swing in a fixed plane parallel to your body. Keep your body really still and keep your arms fixed as they swing through.
Deep Breath: Try taking a deep breath in and out before you take the shot, this can help keep your body still and controlled when hitting the shot.
Visualize: imagine being in complete control of the shot and sending it straight into the hole.
Control Long Putts: If you have a really long put then be sure to control the ball so that you aim to get it within say a 2 foot imaginary circle around the hole.

Keeping in control of the shot is the key to a smooth and accurate putt, mentally and physically.

The putter is probably the most used club on the green and many golf players are after professional golf putting tips to get the best scores they can. It takes quite a long way to get to the green, but once there, you’d better handle it right. Here are some golf putting tips for amateur players who are trying to improve their special swings. The first question that rises refers to the ideal distance for the putt backswing. Golf putting tips recommend that you take your right toe as a standard point. Then accelerate the club-head and hit the ball.

Golf putting tips also revolve around the artificial mats and cups you can order for your backyard to be able to practice. And, this is by far a very good idea, particularly if you have a friend to join you and increase the competitive feeling. Remember that part of the golf putting tip here is to recreate a slightly pressing atmosphere as if you were in a regular game. Many of the golf putting tips beginners use are available in instructional books and videos, not to mention the richness of Internet sources that can assist you in the attempt to improve your golf performance.

A very informational site can be visited at The Simple Golf Swing don’t hesitate to have a look around and see what’s new. You may ask for golf putting tips from your friends or some professional players. If they watch you play it would be really educational and useful for you if they analyzed your style and suggested golf putting tips for an increased game level. Don’t be too proud or too shy to ask or listen, after all, you turn to someone who could set you with a clear example of a well-controlled game and provide some great golf putting tips.

On all golf sites, the request for golf putting tips is often lower than that for distance shots instructions for instance. Up to a point, this preoccupation is normal, since it gets more time to improve the golf swing than to apply some golf putting tips. However, though involving different levels of difficulty and mastery, the golf putting tips and the basic beginner knowledge are equally important for various groups of players. For an obvious increased game quality it is good to put into practice any golf putting tips learnt from regardless what source.

Even if you’ve only been around golf for a short period of

time, I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “drive for show and

putt for dough.” It’s become a golf cliche because of its

inherent truth. People love watching and hitting a long

drive but it’s masterful putting that keeps your score low

and helps pro players win golf tournaments. So how do you

improve your putting and take strokes off your game?

Sure, it’s fun to watch Tiger hit long bombs off the tee,

but it’s Tiger’s short game and putting prowess that keeps

him head and shoulders above the rest of the players on the

PGA Tour. If you’ve watched Tiger play awhile, you may

have noticed that he’s not the most accurate driver off the

tee. But his putting more than makes up for it.

A lot of courses today don’t make it too difficult to get

on the green in regulation. But if you do, you’ll most likely

be facing quite a long putt, making it a challenge to two putt

many holes. And if you consistently three putt, you can forget

about ever posting a low score on the golf course.

So what golf putting tips can you use to leave that long putt

close enough to the hole to give you a good chance of two putting?

1) You’ll need a longer putting stroke from 40 feet away compared

to a 5 or even 10 foot putt. In order to make this more natural,

take a wider stance when you address the ball.

2) Visualize the putt. See if you can estimate the actual time the

putt will take to reach the hole. Don’t forget to visualize the

speed and putt line of the ball as well.

3) Take this visualization and translate it into your putt stroke.

Figure out how long a stroke you’ll need to give the ball enough

speed to reach the hole.

4) While putts inside 10 feet are crucial to your golf game, make

sure to practice longer putts of 30 and 40 feet as well, every time

you practice putting.

Use these golf putting tips for long putts to help you put your long

putts closer to the hole on a more consistent basis. If you can do

this, you’ll cut down on your three puts and shave strokes off of your

game. And you’ll do it without improving any other aspect of your

golf game.

Which do you prefer – golf swing tips or golf putting tips? If you are like most people, your answer would be “golf swing tips“. This is the flashiest part of the game of golf. This is what journalists report on TV and newspaper sports columns. They blare out “Tiger Woods changes his swing!” on their headlines but never mention anything about how effective and efficient his putts are.

The simple fact is that perfecting your putt is the simplest way you can consistently shave off one or two strokes from your game. This is by far the easiest way you can practice your golf – without the limitation of having to go to the golf course. All you really need is your putter, a ball, artificial mats and cups to simulate the green. Place the mats and cups in your backyard or wherever you have space and away you go. Just spend anywhere from 5 minutes to half-an-hour every evening after dinner and you will notice the results in your game.

Here is another golf putting tip – close your eyes. Apparently some pros have been seen closing their eyes when putting. Basically, they know where the ball is and where the hole is. When they close their eyes, they just allow their body to take over – stroking the ball into the hole. Conventional wisdom has it that some people just cannot co-ordinate all the signals between their eyes and their arms because they have too much eye movement, especially when under stress. So closing their eyes changes the state of their whole nervous system, helping it to come under control again. A less extreme version of this technique is to keep your eyes fixed on the hole rather than the ball. Colin Montgomerie has been caught using this technique. Obviously, both versions of the technique require a lot of private practice before you trot it out in public.

Did you know that there are three different kinds of putter? The type most often used is called a conventional putter. It gives most golfers the best combination of sensitivity and mechanical precision. This is what most golf instructors will teach you to use. The problem is that people who cannot control their nerves or wrist action well usually mess up their shots.

To fix this problem, belly putters and long putters were invented. Golfers who use the belly putter anchor the handle to their abdomen. This reduces wrist action but also reduces control over the club and ball. The long putter, on the other hand, allows you to take a vertical stance and you swing the putter without any wrist action. It is great if you have a bad back, but it reduces your control even worse than the belly putter. Despite their flaws, you may want to test out the belly putter and long putter if you cannot get good results with the conventional putters. So what if your golf buddies laugh at you? The chance to take a few strokes off your handicap should be more than adequate compensation for their laughter.

Again, many golfers have trouble with their putting. I know of one experienced golfer who can consistently drive the ball 250 to 300 yards only to get on the green and three putt. Nothing frustrates him more, but putting is an important part of your golf game – possibly THE most important part.

Stroking the ball is only one part of putting. To putt effectively, you first need to know how to read a green. That means looking at the trajectory your ball will travel and compensate for any dips, hills, or anything else that could cause your ball to move a specific way.

Good green reading comes with experience. After hitting enough putts over enough different types of terrain and grass, you develop a sixth sense of how the ball will roll. As you walk onto a green, whether you realize it or not, you take in all sorts of subtle information.

If the green appears light, you know you’re putting against the grain; if it’s dark you’re down grain. If the green is set on a high area of the course and you feel a breeze as you step onto it, you sense that the putt will be fast. Even if you don’t look closely at the surrounding terrain, you are aware of any major slope in the land.

Without having to tell yourself, you know which the low side of the green is and which the high is. If the putting surface is hard and crusty under foot, you receive one message; if it’s soft and spongy you get another. Experience with many, many putts allows you to run this data through your computer before you even mark your ball.

The most elusive aspect of green reading has to do with the grain. Grain refers to the direction in which the blades of grass grow. The light/dark appearance is one way to read it.

Another method you can use is to take your putter blade and scrape it across a patch of fringe. If the blades of grass brush up, you’re scraping against the grain. If they mat down, you’re scraping with it. (Incidentally, be sure to do this scraping on the fringe. On the greens, it’s against Rule 35-1f.)

A third method is to take a look at the cup. Often, the blades of grass will grow over the edge of the cup in the direction in which the grain moves. Incidentally, grain usually grows toward water, especially toward the ocean, and in the East it’s apt to lean toward the mountains. If you’re not near any such topography, figure on the grain growing in the direction of the setting sun.

People are always looking for tips to make their golf game better. Golf is not an easy sport to master. Those of us who love the game knows that the information you have regarding the swing, the course management, putting, etc., you have the chance to play better. So we advise golfers to almost all who are willing to offer.

As this space is limited, so we will focus only on cards that are no longer required. First, if you have a bad temper, you should not follow the courses. We’re just kidding, really. Indeed, golf can be good for your mental state. You may find that you can take your frustration on the golf productive and perhaps we can have better control of that temper!

Most people have problems with their first start up, our first series of golf tips to deal with this step. Firstly, position the body so that your body is parallel to the line of target. The feet should be the same as shoulder width. With short-range irons, putting the ball in the center of your stance.

The iron-East should have the ball put a ball in the side of the center of the target. For the long irons and fairway woods, putting the ball two ball lengths toward the center of the target.
