In golf your swing is just about everything. If you find that your long golf shots are not landing anywhere near the target, your swing is most likely the major culprit, and so here are some golf swing tips that can help you play your best.
* Make sure that you have a rock solid foundation for your swing. To improve your body foundation throughout your swing, try hitting a series of balls with your feet only about six inches apart. This may feel really strange at first, but before long you will start to develop a consistent tempo throughout the swing that allows solid ball contact. And when you start hitting the ball again from your normal stance, you will most likely carry along that solid foundation with you.
* Good golf players hit through the ball and not just at it instead. This promotes a powerful extension that ensures solid contact with the ball. In order to get the feel for this kind of contact, place another golf tee about 6-8 inches in front of your practice ball, and then try to hit not only the ball but also the tee out in front. When you can do both, you are powering through the ball correctly.
* One of the enemies of a smooth swing is swinging too fast, and it is a common problem for lots of golfers. You want a smooth, easy tempo to the swing, so when you draw the club back, imagine in your mind a brief pause at the top just before your downswing, and then consciously think of slowing the swing down. This has the effect of putting a nice rhythm in the swing instead of just a choppy motion.
* Its imperative to avoid moving your body back and forth as you progress through the swing. To counteract this, many pros envision themselves as being inside a barrel as they swing. A barrel would not allow you to sway back and forth, it would only allow you to rotate on its same axis, and that is the proper feel to develop as you go through your backswing.
* A good swing also has a low and slow takeaway from the address of the ball in your stance. To get the feel for this kind of takeaway, place a ball immediately behind your clubhead as you address the ball. When you start the swing try to roll that ball slowly back past your right foot with the back of your clubhead as you draw the club back. Doing this several times will help you get the feel for the long slow takeaway that is critical to beginning a good golf swing.
These few tips can help dramatically improve your golf score if you practice them regularly and get the right motions programmed into your body. When they are repeated over and over again your body muscles remember the motion even when you are no longer practicing the drill and they will help you put together a sweet, powerful swing.

For many people who play golf, it can be frustrating when your golf swing is the cause of a bad game. Whilst mainly a problem for beginners, some regular players also experience problems with their golf swing because they just don’t know any other way to do it. Unless you have had some lessons with a Pro or a teacher, then it is not unlikely that this will be a problem you are familiar with. Before making any changes to how you perform your golf swing, it is important to look at your clubs. Good grips are essential for a good golf swing as you need to ensure you have something to grip on to. Worn grips can be replaced or, depending on your clubs, it could be cheaper to simply buy a replacement club.
The first thing to consider when looking at your golf swing is your stance. A bad stance will lead to a bad back swing, downswing and follow through. Relax your stance and your grip. A good swing happens naturally and a tight grip will kill your swing – a good tip is to hold your club as if you are holding a bird. Remember that a good golf swing has almost nothing to do with your arms; the movement needed comes from the rest of your body.
With your golf back swing, don’t think about your arms, think about turning your back to the target while pulling your club back. When you begin your back swing, make sure your left arm rolls slightly clockwise. This should happen naturally so it is best if you don’t resist it. Try to keep your feet firmly on the ground as this will help to anchor your back swing. Another thing to remember is to cock your wrists. They should be at a ninety degree angle by the time your left wrist is parallel with the ground, taking the golf club back straight.
A good golf down swing starts at the bottom of your body. The best way to complete this swing is to use your lower body, not your shoulders, to carry out the swing. A good way to implement this is to have your belt buckle facing the target, by turning your hips fast and powerfully. This swing should be natural and is a result of everything that precedes it. Again, the best way to carry this swing out naturally is to relax.
After taking the above points into consideration, the best way to improve your golf swing is to practice at the driving range. A good method to use at the range is to practice as if you are playing a round of golf, and use the different types of clubs you would use on the golf course. After each shot, you should take the time to consider what went right and what went wrong, and contemplate what possible changes could be made. It is also important to spend time practicing your putting. Whilst often overlooked while out practicing by most golfers, a good putt can make up for any mistakes you might have made in your golf swing. By taking all this tips into consideration, it won’t be long before you see an improvement in your golf swing.

Mastering the correct golf swing techniques is crucial to winning games on a regular basis. There are many golf swing tips claiming to teach you how to drive the ball farther. An important point to note is that many of these tips do not work in isolation. In fact some of these tips actually contradict one another!
So does this mean that all golf driving tips are just so much hot air? Of course not. You just need to know that different tips work together to form the correct golf swing technique. And there are many techniques out there. A tip which works well for one technique might just turn another driving technique into a mess. You cannot just blindly copy-cat a particular golf swing tip into your technique and expect it to work.
While there are many different golf swing techniques, all the successful techniques can be grouped into either the “one plane swing” school or the “two plane swing” school. Overall, the “two plane swing” school of driving the golf ball is more common. Its most famous exponent is probably Greg Norman.
On the other hand, you can see the “one plane swing” school in action in the drives of two of the best modern golfers in the world – Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh. Yes, indeed – the respective number one and number two golf professionals in the world today are steadily racking up their victories.
Regardless of your technique, there are two major indicators which show whether or not you have correctly mastered your golf swing: rhythm and balance. How do you know when your rhythm is correct? Well, that is like asking a musician whether or not his rhythm is correct. You need to do it. If you have to ask, then you probably do not have it yet. Having said that, once you have mastered the rhythm, you will be able to repeat the same movement consistently at the same speed all the time.
What about balance, then? For inexperienced players, you achieve the best balance by evenly distributing your weight about both feet. Unlike martial arts, you should not try to gain more power in your swing by shifting your balance around. It is far better to maintain a stable stance around which you build your swing.
A common mistake which many golfers make in their golf is to try and increase the power of their swing. It is true that you need a powerful swing to hit the ball farther, but it is even more important to first develop your accuracy. After you can get the ball going where you want, then you can improve your power. Be patient. This is the sequence of events when you do it right: increase accuracy; accuracy increased; increase power; power increased but accuracy decreased; increase accuracy at the new power level; accuracy increased at the new power level; rinse and repeat. Any other way is an exercise in frustration and hair-pulling failure.
Remember to keep up your strength training and flexibility exercises. If you achieve greater strength and a wider range of movement, it will result in your swing becoming more powerful on its own. In other words, by doing golf fitness training, you can improve your golf swing without changing your golf swing techniques. Definitely a good motivation to go to the gym regularly, yes?

Everyone has the same basic golf swing elements. They have a backswing, downswing and a follow through. I think we can all agree on that. Where we are all different is in how we go about doing it. And to put these three elements together with speed and power require a great deal of practice.
Have you ever noticed out on the golf course that no two golfers have the same swing? We all have our own unique golf swing and what may work for one person may not necessarily work for another. We all have to find our own individual playing style and then practice with it. In order to become proficient with golf, you must practice the fundamentals. Only then will you be able to create a consistent, smooth and powerful golf swing. Every PGA pro has done this and that’s why they are so good.
Here are the key elements to any golf swing. Before you begin your golf swing you want to relax. Take a couple of deep breaths and get a mental image in your mind of your golf swing and where you want your golf ball to go. Then grip your golf club firmly, but not tightly. Continue to visualize your golf swing.
As you take the club back in your backswing make sure it is in a smooth one piece takeaway. Take it back until your hands are at the top of your right ear. If you look at the PGA pros you will notice that the club head is almost at a 90 degree angle at the top of their backswing.
Next, as you begin your downswing let your hips begin to move around first. This will give you the power in your golf swing you’re looking for. Your arms will immediately follow your hips and carry the club down through the golf ball and toward the target.
As you follow through do not stop your golf swing. Be sure to let your body continue in one fluid motion.
Here are a few simple tips to keep in mind while focusing on your swing thoughts:
o Your left elbow should remain straight as you take the club back during your backswing.
o Keep your wrists at a 90 degree angle as your left arm remains parallel to the ground.
o Always begin your downswing using your hips and lower body, not your shoulders. This is a vital point.
o As you start bringing the club down, turn your hips in one powerful motion towards your intended target.
o Just as you are about to strike the golf ball, snap your wrists and begin your follow through. This will help you to generate greater power.
o On your follow through your right arm should end up near your left shoulder.
o Your feet should always be balanced throughout the golf swing.
There is no set golf swing for everyone. You can’t just pick up a golf club and swing it at the golf ball as hard as you can. There are just so many different variables in developing a consistent golf swing.
It will take a lot of practice and persistence to develop your golf swing. Give yourself time and practice often. Consider taking golf lessons from a professional in forming a good quality golf swing. The money spent on getting these lessons is priceless. Above all else, have fun and enjoy yourself. Golf is a great game and getting the right swing will make it that much more enjoyable.

Many golfers have worked for years and years trying to perfect their swing and improve their game. However, problems do arise. They come about mostly because golfers tend to forget the basic mechanics of the game and start playing sloppy.
A Slice is a specific left-to-right trajectory shape for a golf ball created by a significant tilt of the spin-axis of the golf ball to the right, or a clockwise spin. This is opposite for lefties. A slice usually ends up right of the target line, and the term is often used when the curve in the trajectory is extreme and unintentional. The less extreme version of a slice is called a “fade”.
In understanding the basics of the golf swing, in order to hit the ball squarely and straight every time, you must return to the original spot at impact. A slice is caused by the club face being slightly open at the point of impact, thus causing the ball to spin in a clockwise motion, (opposite for lefties). In most cases the swing path is correct, but the golf ball is not being hit squarely at the point of impact, commonly caused by what is known as a “weak grip”. Read the rest of this entry »
